During the winter, the village of La Pierre St Martin, located in the Baretous Valley only 80 km from Salies de Béarn, offers a breathtaking view over the ski slopes. Its chalets, in the middle of the pine forests, give it a charm of its own. This family resort is ideal for an initiation to skiing!






Station de Gourette


You can also discover the beautiful resorts of Gourette in the Ossau Valley and Artouste – located less than 100 km from Salies de Béarn. The small town of Oloron-Sainte-Marie, located only 60 km from Salies de Béarn, represents a rallying point for the different ski resorts of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.







In the Béarn des Gaves and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, beginners and experienced fishermen can try their hand at course fishing, fly fishing and lure fishing for salmon and / or wild trout – especially at Navarrenx, the “Salmon Capital” – in relation with the Committee for the Gave d’Oloron.

You are free to go cycling and mountain biking in the Béarn des Gaves! The management at the Cottages du Saleys and the tourist information office and CDT will be able to provide you with valuable information on the best family itineraries (especially from Aressy to Uzos in the Béarn).







Horse Riding


Discover horse riding in the open countryside! If you wish to go a step further, we will guide you, with help from the tourist information office, on the different bridle paths which crisscross the plains and hills of the Pyrenees or on the smugglers paths.

Go rafting and canoeing on the mountain rivers of Pau and Oloron. The Béarn des Gaves offers a range of activities in the area around Navarrenx, Orthez and Sauveterre-de Béarn









The Saleys Cottages, in relation with the tourist information office and the CDT, and will provide information on all the hikes organized in the Béarn and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

You can also enjoy hiking in the Baretous, Aspe and Ossau Valleys! And why not enjoy a trip on the small mountain trains of the Rhune and Artouste!







Dog sleds


Hiking with dogs (with sled dogs) is organized in the Salies de Béarn area by a professional who is recognized as such.

Pierre Galvez, who participated in Nicolas Vanier’s expeditions, is now established at Sauveterre de Béarn. The Saleys Cottages will provide you with all useful information!





Chemins de St Jacques de Compostelle


Discover the Béarn at the crossroads of the St Jacques de Compostelle pathways – en route towards the beautiful stopover at St Jean de Pied de Port – in the heart of the Basque country!


All hikers and pilgrims converge in the Basque Country and the Béarn before crossing the Pyrenees at the legendary Bentarte and Somporte mountain passes – before undertaking the “camino françès”. The main itineraries to St Jacques de Compostelle converge in the Basque and Béarn areas.
